Belarus-Moldova trade up 11% in January-September 2012

CHISINAU, 8 November (BelTA) – In January-September 2012 the trade between Belarus and Moldova totaled $250.9 million, up 10.8% over the same period in 2011, BelTA learnt from the Embassy of Belarus in Moldova.

In January-September Belarus’ exports to Moldova made up $192.7 million, up 9.9% over the same months a year ago. Supplies of Moldavian goods to Belarus increased by 13.9% to $58.2 million.

In January-September Belarus’ trade surplus with Moldova totaled $134.5 million, up 8.2% as against the same months the previous year.

In 2011 the trade between Belarus and Moldova made up $319.7 million, up 28.3% in comparison with 2010. Last year Belarus’ exports to Moldova grew 46.5% to $242 million, Moldavian supplies to Belarus reduced by 7.4% to $77.7 million.

The bilateral trade includes more than 500 commodity items, 388 of them are Belarusian exports. Moldova buys Belarusian engineering products: tractors, buses, trucks, road and construction equipment. Over 30,000 Belarusian tractors work on Moldavian fields. The Moldavian market features a wide range of Belarusian household goods, timber, fertilizers, pharmaceutical products, garment, furniture, ceramics. Moldavians often prefer such well-known brands as Savushkin Product, Santa Bremor, Keramin, Gefest, Atlant, Milavitsa.

Belarus is a traditional consumer of Moldavian agricultural, winemaking and industrial products. Belarus purchases Moldavian fresh and canned fruit and vegetables, wines and cognacs, corn, sunflower oil, gypsum, other products. In 2011 Belarus ranked first in the consumption of Moldavian winemaking products and second in the import of Moldavian fruits and vegetables.

According to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Moldova Vyacheslav Osipenko, the two countries plan to reach $500 million in bilateral trade in a year or two.
