Lukashenko inaugurates new metro stations

MINSK, 6 November (BelTA) - Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko inaugurated a new section of the first line of the Minsk metro, BelTA has learnt.

The new section includes three stations, namely Grushevka, Mikhalova and Petrovshchina, which make part of the first line that starts from the station The Institute of Culture.

The President was reported on the Minsk metro development, measures to ensure its security, the progress in the project to remodel Dzerzhinskogo Prospekt. The President was briefed on the development of the intercity rail passenger transportation system.

The new section is over 5km long. Estimated passenger turnover of the first line is about 723,000 people per day at the initial stage. In the future this figure will increase. Train interval is approximately 2 minutes.

The new metro stations will connect the residential areas in the south-west of the city with the downtown as well as the industrial zone in the south-east part of the city. Three new metro stations will improve the traffic capacity in Dzerzhinskogo Prospekt and reduce the number of ground passenger transport. The effort will contribute to the environmental improvement of the area.

Alexander Lukashenko was informed that a number of progressive technical solutions had been implemented in the construction of the new metro stations.
