Belarus, Armenia have similar positions in UN, OSCE

MINSK, 6 November (BelTA) - Belarus and Armenia have similar approaches in such international organizations as the United Nations and the OSCE, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Alexander Mikhnevich told reporters after the Belarusian-Armenian ministerial consultations.

“The consultations with Armenian colleagues were very successful and productive. We discussed issues of cooperation in the international organizations and noted the similarity of approaches in the UN and the OSCE, and in the organizations among the former Soviet states – the CIS, CSTO, and others that have been created in recent years. We always support each other, and we agreed to continue doing so in the future,” said Alexander Mikhnevich. Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan also confirmed the similarity of the positions of the two countries on key issues on the international agenda.

According to Alexander Mikhnevich, the sides analyzed the present legal framework. “We have nearly 60 documents of different level, and yet there are some gaps in our legal framework. We have agreed to complete the work on some agreements and sign them in the near future,” the Belarusian official said.

In his words, Belarus and Armenia plan to conduct the next ministerial consultations in spring 2013. “In spring Armenia will take over the presidency in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, and out Armenian colleagues will have a lot of work. We would like to compare notes and approaches in the organization as well as on other European platforms,” Alexander Mikhnevich said.
