Belarus named most creative CSTO member

MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) – Belarus is the most creative partner in the CSTO, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Mr Nikolai Bordiuzha told media on 26 October.

He explained that the Belarusian side puts forth various initiatives all the time. These proposals of the Belarusian side envisage the improvement of the collective security system as a whole. The proposals also contain concrete suggestions to improve the foreign policy, military cooperation, counteraction of new challenges: drug trafficking, extremism and other ones.

“The most important thing is that we feel that Belarus is interested in these activities and that these activities truly help the goals of securing stability in the country and the stability in the post-Soviet space,” said the Secretary General.

Asked about the Belarusian-Russian army exercise that will take place in 2013, Nikolai Bordiuzha said that the CSTO uses bilateral exercises to practice interaction with partners. “As a rule, operative groups of the armed forces of CSTO states, including Central Asia countries, are present during such exercises. They work on training tasks regarding the organization of joint operations,” he explained.

Speaking about the meeting with Belarusian Foreign Minister Mr Vladimir Makei earlier on that day, Nikolai Bordiuzha remarked he had informed the Belarusian Foreign Minister about the current work of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. The talks also covered the situation in the sector of interest of the Collective Security Treaty. In addition, situation development trends, including those influenced by changes in the situation in Afghanistan, were discussed.

“We discussed a lot of things and I am very satisfied with the meeting,” remarked Nikolai Bordiuzha.
