CSTO Coordination Council to discuss counter-drugs strategy

MOSCOW, 25 October (BelTA) – A meeting of the Coordination Council of the heads of competent authorities on combating drug trafficking of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will take place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on 25 October, BelTA learnt from CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov.

Delegations of the counter-drug agencies of Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan are expected to take stock of the activity of the Coordination Council in 2012 and the first special forces exercises Grom-2012 in Moscow Region in September. The participants of the meeting will discuss cooperation in investigative activities, information sharing, staff training and the action plan for 2013.

The agenda of the meeting will include debates on the counter-drugs strategy of the CSTO member states and raising of efficiency of the regional counter-drug operation Canal. Participants of the meeting will consider cooperation of the Coordination Council of the heads of competent authorities on combating drug trafficking of the Collective Security Treaty Organization with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Eurasian Group on combating money laundering and financing of terrorism which delegation is to partake in the meeting in Bishkek, and other international organizations.
