Belarus invites 45 companies to attend MTS pre-sale presentation

MINSK, 24 October (BelTA) - Invitations to attend the pre-sale presentation of the state-owned stake in MTS have been sent to 45 companies, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

Invitations were sent to major telecommunication operators working on the telecommunications market of the CIS and foreign countries.

A presentation preceding the auction of the government stake in COOO MTS will be held on 2 November. The presentation aims to find potential buyers of the government share in the Belarusian mobile carrier. The government offers its 51% stake for $1 billion. The date of the auction has not been finalized yet.

According to the ministry, the auction does not envisage determination of the sales terms apart from the starting price. One who offers the highest price wins the tender.

Last year Belarus hosted the similar presentation. Partaking in it were companies from Russia, Europe, Asia and Middle East.

The Belarusian-Russian limited liability company Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) has been providing GSM 900/1800 mobile communication services in Belarus since 2002. UMTS-based services have been available since 2010. The founders are the Belarusian landline communication monopoly Beltelecom (51% of the registered capital) and the Russian mobile company Mobile TeleSystems (49%).
