Belarus attends international forestry industry forum in Moscow

MINSK, 22 October (BelTA) - A delegation of Belarus headed by Forestry Minister Mikhail Amelyanovich is in Moscow for the sixth international forestry industry forum, BelTA learnt from the press service of the ministry.

The main goal of the event is to discuss the pressing issues of the forestry industry in Russia, and search for effective ways to address key industry issues.

Mikhail Amelyanovich will hold working meetings with senior officials of the Russian Federal Forestry Agency to discuss mutually advantageous cooperation in the field of forestry and visit forestry companies of Russia to get acquainted with their work.

On 23 October the forum participants will gather for the plenary meeting to discuss topical issues of forestry legislation, global challenges in the forestry sector, the cooperation between Russia and the World Bank in the field of sustainable forest management, prospects of international cooperation and public-private partnerships in major investment projects.

Roundtables on 24-26 October will discuss issues of forest restoration, promising areas in forest conservation and the role of public organizations in conservation of forest resources, counteracting illegal logging, and timber sales.

Attending the plenary session and roundtables will be representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Bank, the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee, ministries of Argentine, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus. Among other participants will be specialists from the U.S., Finland, France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Spain, CIS, Georgia, Ukraine as well as international organizations such as the European Commission, the World Bank, and the UNECE.

The organizers of the forum are the Federal Forestry Agency, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and the Union of Timbermen and Timber Exporters of Russia.

The forum will stay open until 26 October.
