World Bank, IMF praise Belarus’ reforms

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund praised Belarus’ recent reforms aimed at long-term economic development of the country, the PR department of the Economy Ministry told BelTA while commenting on the results of the participation of the Belarusian delegation led by Economy Minister Nikolai Snopkov in the in the annual autumn meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Tokyo.

“Belarus presented information on its social and economic situation as well as its recent reforms. Representatives of the World Bank and the IMF praised Belarus’ steps to set for long-term economic development and expressed hope that the work of the IMF mission in Belarus in October would make a basis for future consultations,” the Economy ministry said.

The Belarusian delegation attended the annual autumn meetings in Tokyo. The delegations of the member countries of the IMF and the World Bank Group discussed the issues related to the performance of these institutions, and also exchanged views on a wide range of economic and financial issues.

On the sidelines of these events, the Belarusian delegation held bilateral meetings with the leaders of international financial organizations. In particular, meetings were held with Ms Nemat Shafik, IMF Deputy Managing Director, Mr Reza Moghadam, Director of the IMF's European Department, Mr. Philippe Le Houerou, World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia, Mr Dimitris Tsitsiragos, IFC Vice President for Eastern and Southern Europe, Middle East and North Africa and Mr Olivier Descamps, EBRD Managing Director, Turkey, Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia.

The Belarusian delegation also comprised First deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Bank Yuri Alymov and Deputy Finance Minister Maksim Yermolovich.
