Works on Belarus NPP second reactor foundation pit to begin in August 2013

MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – Works on the foundation pit for the second energy unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (NPP) will be launched in August 2013. They are scheduled for completion in April 2014, according to the materials prepared by the Energy Ministry of Belarus for the Belarusian Energy and Environment Forum.

The first concrete is expected to be poured in August 2014. Completion of all building and assembling works are planned for 2019. The physical startup of NPP energy unit No.2 is set for December 2019, the power startup and commission of the unit – for July 2020.

As for the main construction stages of Belarus NPP first reactor, excavation works for the foundation pit are to be finished in February 2013. Casting is scheduled for October 2013-January 2014. Building and assembling works at the first energy unit will be conducted through 2017. Its physical startup is slated for May 2018, the power startup – for November 2018.

The designed service life of the Belarusian NPP is 60 years. The annual electrical supply (of the two units) is 17.74 billion kWh. The pay-off period of the project is 18.5 years.
