Belarus, Azerbaijan to conduct joint research in nanotechnologies

MINSK, 1 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Azerbaijan plan to conduct joint research in nanotechnologies, Elchin Babayev, Executive Director of the Science Development Fund under the President of Azerbaijan, told media on 28 September.

The Science Development Fund under the President of Azerbaijan, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Belarusian National Fundamental Research Foundation plan joint research in physics, mathematics, technical and humanitarian sciences. Among the promising areas are nanotechnologies, Elchin Babayev said.

According to Chairman of the Belarusian National Fundamental Research Fund, NASB Academician Valentin Orlovich, the President of Azerbaijan learnt about Belarus’ achievements in economy and science during his recent visit to Belarus. It created necessary prerequisites for strengthening cooperation in scientific research. In some of the areas Belarus and Azerbaijan can be complementary. Belarus takes pride in its research in optical technologies while Azerbaijan has made great headway in the production of semiconductors.

Belarus and Azerbaijan has been developing scientific cooperation for several years already. The amount of joint projects exceeds 20. The two countries are gearing up for the implementation of 10-15 more in the near future, including projects in fundamental and applied research.

The Science Development Fund under the President of Azerbaijan, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Belarusian National Fundamental Research Foundation signed an agreement on cooperation in science on 28 September.
