German military confirm Belarus’ fulfillment of obligations under CFE Treaty

MINSK, 1 October (BelTA) – German military inspectors confirmed Belarus’ fulfillment of obligations under the Treaty on Conventional Forces in Europe (CFE Treaty), BelTA learnt from the Defense Ministry of Belarus.

The German inspection group headed by Colonel Jern Lehmann was in Belarus on 25-28 September. The inspection group examined a military unit of the Belarusian Armed Forces, which is subject to control under CFE. The inspection confirmed that the actual amount of material limited by the treaty corresponds to the declared data.

The inspection group included six military inspectors from Germany and three from Great Britain.

On 25-27 September a Latvian inspection group led by Major Gints Homanis conducted an evaluation visit to the 103rd guards independent mobile brigade under the Agreement on Additional Confidence and Security Building Measures between Belarus and Latvia. The inspectors evaluated the reliability of the information presented by Belarus to the OSCE member states according to the 2011 Vienna Document on the personnel and material of the verified unit.
