Belarus interested in big economic projects with Brazil
MINSK, 7 September (BelTA) – All-round cooperation with Brazil is among Belarus’ priorities in South America, Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergei Aleinik said at an official reception at the Embassy of Brazil in Minsk to mark the country’s Independence Day.
Speaking about the trade and economic relations between Belarus and Brazil, Sergei Aleinik stressed that they have been steadily developing. “With a powerful industrial complex, well-developed agriculture and services sector, Brazil is one of Belarus’ leading trade and economic partners in South America. Our mutual trade has more than doubled over the last five years. In 2011 Brazil ranked 8th among Belarus’ world trading partners and 6th in Belarus’ exports,” he said.
According to Sergei Aleinik, Belarus is ready for further joint work in stepping up and diversifying bilateral trade.
The Belarusian official emphasized Belarus’ readiness and interest in developing sustainable mutual relations with Brazil in all the areas, especially in the implementation of big economic projects, development of joint productions. Moreover, Belarus looks to closer cooperation in education, science and culture.
In his words, independent foreign and socially-oriented domestic policies of Belarus and Brazil have been contributing to the mutual beneficial cooperation of the two countries. “Our relations are characterized by similar viewpoints on the world policy trends, present-day threats and challenges,” Sergei Aleinik said.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brazil to Belarus Renato Luiz Rodrigues Marques also took note of successful trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. In his words, Belarus supplies Brazil with fertilizers. Last year Brazil imported $1.5 billion worth of Belarusian products, mainly potash fertilizers. It makes Belarus an important trading partner for Brazil.
The diplomat believes that opening of the embassies is an acknowledgement of high-level relations between Brazil and Belarus. Brazil opened its embassy in Minsk in 2011. The Belarusian diplomatic mission arrived in Brazil in late 2010. “I hope the embassy (of Brazil – BelTA’s note) will continue promoting cooperation between the two countries at the official level and help open Brazil to the Belarusian people,” the Ambassador noted.
