Lukashenko prioritizes domestic investment in economy

MINSK, 3 September (BelTA) – Talking to reporters on 1 September, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko stressed importance of domestic investment in the country’s economic development.

“We have done everything necessary to make Belarus more favorable for foreign investors. We have created ideal conditions for investing. The main thing today is not taxes but stability, an opportunity to invest and run a business,” the President noted.

Alexander Lukashenko believes that not only foreign but also domestic investment is of crucial importance for the country’s economic growth.

“Today we have more opportunities for domestic investment. We have businessmen, state-run companies, budget investment. Then let us not hurry giving away everything to foreigners. Let us give a chance to our people,” the head of state noted.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, investment means modernization, construction. “I will be frank: today we are not ready to utilize all the domestic and foreign investment we have. We are short of builders and other specialists,” the Belarusian leader said adding a necessity to involve foreign companies in utilization of additional foreign investment.

In his words, attention should be paid to investment in the most promising areas. As a example the Belarusian leader cited the Belarusian-China Industrial Park project which will involve the world’s leading companies.

“I would like to reiterate: I support our people, companies and the state to invest in the national economy in the first place,” the head of state said.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that the main focus remains on modernization. “In 2012-2013 we will put into operation seven or eight woodworking companies. Goods they will produce are sold like hotcakes worldwide. This huge project is implemented by means of domestic investment,” the Belarusian leader said.
