Belarus’ resolution on UN Global Plan of Action adopted in Vienna

MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – The resolution of the Republic of Belarus on the implementation of the UN Global Plan of Action Against Trafficking in Persons was adopted in Vienna on 26 April, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian embassy in Austria.

The document was approved at the 22nd meeting of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. The resolution was suggested by Belarus as part of the implementation of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko's initiative to coordinate international efforts against human trafficking. The resolution calls for active efforts to continue the implementation of Belarus-initiated UN Global Plan of Action Against Trafficking in Persons.

The resolution draws attention of the international community to the necessity of combating human trafficking for organ, tissue and cell trade. The Belarusian resolution is coauthored by a wide range of countries. It means a strong support of the efforts the country takes at the intentional level to fight against trafficking in human beings.

On the same day Belarus organized an additional event jointly with the Secretariat of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime to present the Global Report on Trafficking in Persons. Speaking at the meeting the Belarusian delegation stressed that the preparation of the Global Report on Trafficking in Persons was one of the most significant results of the implementation of the Belarus-initiated UN Global Plan of Action Against Trafficking in Persons and laid foundation for the regular activity of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime in collecting information on the dynamics of human trafficking at the global, regional and national scale. Belarus called upon the member states to continue the work on the data collection and presentation for an all-round study of the crime and elaboration of efficient strategies for counteracting to this global threat.
