Lukashenko warns against politicization of Single Economic Space

MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) - President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko considers it inadmissible to politicize the processes in the Single Economic Space. The head of state made this statement as he met with Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov of Kazakhstan, BelTA learned.

“Together with you and Russia we have already created a very promising, as I hope, organization that will help the states and the people living in those states. I absolutely agree with Nursultan Nazarbayev that processes in this organization should never be politicized. Indeed, we do not hurry and address the problems in a calm manner. If we solve them without building any fences, then we will be able to move on, develop new processes and solve new problems that will arise,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that in its present format the Single Economic Space had already started to yield results, including in bilateral cooperation. Thus, in 2012 the trade between Belarus and Kazakhstan reached almost $1 billion. “Once we dreamt about it. Today we have it,” the head of state said.

For his part, Serik Akhmetov stated that on 29 May Kazakhstan is set to host a high-level meeting of the Single Economic Space to discuss integration development. He agreed with the opinion that at first it is important to “build the ground floor” in this integration entity and only then take further careful steps.
