Brest Investment Forum draws delegations from 13 countries

BREST, 24 April (BelTA) – Delegations from 13 countries are taking part in the 6th Brest Investment Forum, BelTA has learnt.

The forum has welcomed nearly 200 guests. These are representatives of diplomatic establishments of Kazakhstan, Russia, the Czech Republic, Vietnam, Poland, Latvia as well as businessmen from Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Moldova, Pakistan, Ukraine, Serbia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Brest Oblast Governor Konstantin Sumar noted that the issue of international economic cooperation has recently gained relevance. “Investment generation is an effective resource for the region’s economic development. The country in general and the oblast in particular have done a lot to develop a favorable investment climate. Over the past decade foreign investment in the oblast soared 14 times. Today we are ready to offer the participants of the forum some 40 promising investment projects – in the agro-industrial sector, tourism and roadside infrastructure,” the Governor said.

The Belarusian-Polish joint project for the production of batteries is expected to be signed during the forum. The production sites have already been allotted in Pinsk and Bereza for this project. The successful implementation of the project will fully satisfy Belarus’ demand for this product.

This year Brest Oblast is set to raise $195 million in foreign investment. All in all, the region has signed agreements to implement investment projects worth more than $1 billion 300 million. For various reasons, not all of these projects have been started, but by 2015 they will yield definitely results, the Governor believes.

The sixth investment forum became the central event of the business program of the 15th regional fair “Brest. Commonwealth-2013” which opened in Brest on 24 April.
