Belarus, Lithuania now in active investment cooperation phase

KLAIPEDA, 18 April (BelTA) – Belarus and Lithuania have entered the phase of active investment cooperation. The statement was made by Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich in Klaipeda on 18 April, BelTA has learned.

Mikhail Myasnikovich was confident that expectations of the sides regarding the Belarusian-Lithuanian economic forum had proved true. “A very concrete and constructive dialogue is in progress, certain statements for the future have been made. Participants make concrete proposals regarding how to expand the scale and the geography of cooperation,” stressed the Prime Minister.

The key thing is that the sides have progressed beyond trade cooperation to enter the phase of active investment cooperation, remarked Mikhail Myasnikovich. “It can now be said that the volume, for instance, of Lithuanian investments for the projects we have agreed on will exceed $150 million in the next two years. These are good figures taking into account that the services sector is developing vigorously. Last year we had $630 million mutually, roughly 50 and 50. Prospects are good,” he said.

Very many innovative projects are started. There is a great potential for Belarusian-Lithuanian cooperation in this area, continued the Prime Minister. “Lithuania has advanced in information technologies, healthcare, particularly in oncology, cardiology, and biotechnologies. Taking into account our Belbiograd I think it will be just multiplied,” said Mikhail Myasnikovich. Such projects shape the economy for 20-30 years ahead, he stressed.

The sides have discussed some political matters and matters concerning the construction of the nuclear power plant in Belarus, added the Prime Minister. “We have also invited Lithuanian construction companies to participate in the project,” remarked Mikhail Myasnikovich.
