Minsk Oblast, Yaroslavl Oblast sign memorandum of understanding

MINSK, 17 April (BelTA) – the Minsk Oblast Council of Deputies and the Yaroslavl Oblast Duma signed a memorandum of understating on 17 April, BelTA has learnt.

The document was inked by Chairman of the Minsk Oblast Council of Deputies Ivan Lipnitsky and Chairman of the Yaroslavl Oblast Duma Ilya Osipov. According to Ivan Lipnitsky, Minsk Oblast attaches great importance to efficient mutual relations with Russian regions. “In 2012 the trade between Minsk Oblast and Yaroslavl Oblast almost reached $24 million. Our regions have great potential and high-quality goods to reach $100 million in mutual trade. With this, we should focus on direct contracts, without mediators. It will benefit both the sides,” he said.

Chairman of the Minsk Oblast Council of Deputies also stressed that Minsk Oblast makes focus on modernization of its agriculture. “Our specialists may share experience in the implementation of turn key construction of up-to-date farms,” he noted.

Ilya Osipov believes that the problems and challenges of the Minsk and Yaroslavl regions are similar. “We are interested in the Belarusian experience of maintaining and developing small towns, improving the quality of life there. Yaroslavl Oblast would also like to establish cooperation in the field of mechanical engineering. Our regions have boundless opportunities for major projects in various fields,” he said.

Relations between Minsk and Yaroslavl Oblasts rely on the cooperation agreement between the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee and the Yaroslavl Oblast administration signed on 14 June 1996. In January-February 2013 the bilateral trade amounted to $3.5 million, up 14.3% from the same period in 2012.
In 2012 Minsk Oblast’s major exports to the Russian region were plastic products, flour, and butter. Major imports were internal combustion engines, metal, ferrous metal, and leather.
