CIS draft agreement on joint border rapid response teams approved

MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – The CIS Foreign Ministers Council approved a draft agreement on joint teams of border experts for rapid response to border security threats at the CIS external borders, Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei told media after the meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council in Tashkent on 5 April.

“The delegations approved the draft agreement on joint teams of border experts for rapid response to border security threats at the CIS external borders. The document spells out the order of formation, application and phasedown of such groups,” the minister explained.

In his words, the council considered 11 issues concerning the most important areas of cooperation in the CIS. Utmost attention was turned to strengthening regional ties in the area of security and the fight against violations as well as in education, sports and tourism. According to the minister, every issue of the agenda of the meeting was thoroughly discussed. “We have considered a number of international issues of the current importance. We have agreed on concrete steps for the near future to operationally and interactively respond to the present-day challenges and threats,” Vladimir Makei said.

As the chairman Vladimir Makei thanked the authorities of Uzbekistan for the invitation to hold the CIS Foreign Ministers Council in hospitable Tashkent. “We praise the organization of the event which was held in a warm and business-like atmosphere. The hosts created the best conditions for the work of the delegations,” the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.
