Belarus President: Modernization is a matter of survival of the economy and the state

MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – Modernization is a matter of survival of the economy and the state. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko made the statement on 5 April, BelTA has learned.

“Modernization is a matter of survival of our economy and hence the state. There is no alternative,” stressed the Belarusian leader.

Yet Alexander Lukashenko noted that mass modernization is not a one-shot process and cannot produce results right away. “We have launched the process, it is going, but as always there are difficulties and drawbacks. And I am truly displeased with the fact that there are some. They have to be addressed,” said the President.

“Money is the key issue. The bad timing is another problem. But there is no escape when the matter of survival is raised,” said the head of state. “According to preliminary results of Q1 2013 the European market is in recession everywhere while it is half of our export. Russia has sagged seriously, we see it, too. We have discussed the matter with the president of Russia. Therefore, we have to travel to distant countries, which have been less affected by the crisis in order to diversify our export”.

“Therefore, modernization will go on whether some like it or not,” Alexander Lukashenko made it clear.
