Lukashenko: Venezuelan presidential election will not affect relations with Belarus

MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – Belarus-Venezuela relations will be developing regardless of the results of the upcoming presidential election in Venezuela, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told reporters on 5 April, BelTA has learned.

“I think it is not difficult to foretell the results of the presidential election in Venezuela. Even the sworn enemies of Venezuela believe that Nicolas Maduro will win with a nearly 20% majority. The result of the election seems to be predictable,” the Belarusian head of state believes.

As far as the Belarusian-Venezuelan cooperation is concerned, Alexander Lukashenko is convinced that it will be continued regardless of who will be elected President. “Let us assume that Capriles will win the election. Did Belarus do any harm to Venezuela? We build what they need there. We teach people to work at those enterprises. Who else in the world will do that for them? In fact, nobody did that before us,” the President said.

“Therefore, even if it happens, we will always come to an agreement with opposition leaders. We are known, respected and welcomed not only by highest-ranking officials, but also by ordinary people. This is our advantage. Therefore, after the presidential election takes place in Venezuela we will continue cooperating with the country as effectively as we did before. It benefits us and it benefits the Venezuelan,” the head of state concluded.
