Belarus to attend session of UN Committee on Elimination of Racial Discrimination

MINSK, 19 August (BelTA) - The Belarusian delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Valentin Rybakov will participate in the session of the United Nations (UN) Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in Switzerland’s Geneva on 20-21 August, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

The delegation will also include representatives of the Office of the Commissioner for Religions and Nationalities and officials from the Interior, Justice, Education and Information Ministries.

During the session Valentin Rybakov will present Belarus’ periodic report on the progress to fulfill progress provisions of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. The report will contain information on the nationwide efforts aimed to prevent discrimination on the grounds of race, color, national or ethnic origin and promote intercultural, interethnic and interreligious dialogue.

The Belarusian side will be given some recommendations after the report is reviewed.

As the party to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination Belarus is obliged to provide national periodic reports to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Belarus ratified the convention in 1969.
