Elections to councils of deputies of Belarus scheduled for 23 March 2014

MINSK, 2 December (BelTA) – The elections to the local councils of deputies of Belarus are to be held on 23 March 2014. The date was approved by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, the press service of the Belarusian head of state told BelTA following the working meeting of the Belarusian President with Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina.

“Alexander Lukashenko and Lidia Yermoshina discussed the date of the elections to local councils of deputies. Lidia Yermoshina informed that the authority of the current councils of deputies will expire on 25 April. In line with the constitution, the new election campaign should start not later than 30 days before the expiry of the term of office of the current councils of deputies. Alexander Lukashenko approved the suggestion to hold the elections on 23 March 2014,” the press service noted.

Lidia Yermoshina informed that, repeat elections at Gomel-Novobelitsky constituency No. 36 will be held simultaneously with the elections to the local councils of deputies, as no one was elected to this constituency during the 2012 parliamentary elections.
