Union State can serve as platform for Eurasian Economic Union, Samoseiko says

MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) - The Union State can be used as a platform for more dynamic formation of the Eurasian Economic Union, Nikolai Samaseiko, chairman of the permanent commission for international affairs of the House of Representatives, Deputy Chairman of the Belarus-Russia Union State Parliamentary Assembly, told an online video-briefing on the information-analytical portal of the Union State, BelTA learned.

When asked about the future of the Union State after the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union, the MP noted that he would not compare, much less oppose, the Union State and the economic integration of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan. "Economic dialogue is actively promoted by the customs troika. Its results, of course, apply to the Union State. But the relations in the Union State cover a wider range of issues: social security, health, defense,” Nikolai Samoseiko said.

At the same time, the MP noted that, "in fact, the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space had their roots in the arrangements that have been implemented within the framework of the Union State. The unification of customs tariffs between Belarus and Russia before the Customs Union was established was more than 90%. This is one of the factors why the Customs Union was created within a very short period of time,” said Nikolai Samoseiko.
