Permission to sell state share in Belarusian MTS prolonged

MINSK, 20 February (BelTA) – Beltelecom and OAO MTS have prolonged the permission to sell the state-owned share in the Belarusian mobile carrier MTS to a third party. The information was released by Beltelecom Director General Mr Sergei Popkov on 20 February, BelTA has learned.

In his words, they still seek a potential buyer for the state share in SOOO MTS. The State Property Committee is working on it. Beltelecom accomplishes all the tasks it is given, assured Sergei Popkov.

Information Technologies and Communications Minister Mr Nikolai Pantelei also remarked that finding a buyer was still on agenda. “The price has been determined. Everything will depend on the availability of potential buyers,” explained the Minister. The Beltelecom head also said that they are not considering the re-incorporation of the national telecom operator as a joint-stock company. “However, if the relevant proposal is made, we are ready to accomplish this task,” he stressed.
