National Bank, WB to discuss assistance to financial sector in Belarus

MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) - Experts of the World Bank Group arrived in Belarus on 11 February for consultations with representatives of the National Bank, BelTA learnt from the bank.

During the meetings on 11-15 February, the parties will discuss Belarus’ current regime to regulate mortgage lending, the main perceived risks, current and planned initiatives.

The experts will discuss the relevance of the programs to enhance financial literacy for young people and pensioners, and discuss the methodologies used in other countries.

The parties will discuss the joint research, and further steps to enhance the role of the National Bank in protection of the rights of the consumers of financial services on the basis of the assessment carried out by the World Bank in December 2012.

Earlier, in December 2012, the National Bank of Belarus asked the World Bank to provide international technical assistance for the development of leasing. The World Bank gave its preliminary prior consent.
