Belarus looks to increase trade with Croatia to $100m

MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) - Belarus is interested in increasing trade with Croatia up to $100 million, Ambassador of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko said as he met with Ambassador of Croatia to Russia Igor Pokaz, BelTA has learnt from the press service of the diplomatic mission.

The meeting took place at the Embassy of Belarus in Moscow on 7 February. The parties specifically discussed the prospects for expanding the bilateral trade and to the 2008 pre-crisis record level of $107.9 million. For comparison: in 2012 the trade exceeded $45 million.

The parties also shared opinions on developing the legal framework, bilateral partnership, strengthening contacts between the countries in the scientific, technological, cultural and other areas.

The Croatian diplomat was updated on the economic and investment potential of Belarus. Belarus expressed interest in continuing bilateral ministerial consultations.

The Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Croatia established diplomatic relations in 25 September 1992. In December 2012 the Council of Ministers of Belarus gave its consent on Igor Pokaz’s appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Croatia to the Republic of Belarus on concurrent.
