Council for Entrepreneurship Development criticized for lack of constructive ideas

MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – The Entrepreneurship Development Council did not become the generator of constructive ideas and a flagship of dynamic development, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said at a session held on 26 February to discuss operation of the Council for Entrepreneurship Development in the Republic of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

“For the past ten years the council has failed to fulfill my major requirement to become a direct link between business and the government,” the President said.

“I have a package of documents and the report on the performance of the council since its establishment in 1999. The report says that the council has done a lot. It held regular meetings with private businessmen, seminars, round and ‘square’ tables to discuss urgent problems, sent analytical letters to the government and other bodies, issued a lot of publications in scientific journals, made statements in mass media, conducted annual expertise of the legal framework, etc.”, the head of state remarked. However, in his words, the council lacks the main thing that he spoke about at the first session of the council. It should make proposals directly, including on the improvement of the legislation and the operation of the entire business community, and arrange feedback with the business community.

Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that it is necessary to upgrade the Council for Entrepreneurship Development.
