Belarus starts making UAVs

MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) – The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has launched the production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), Vice-Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Sergei Chizhik told reporters on 24 January.

The company manufacturing Belarusian drones was set up by the Physical-Technical Institute of the NASB. The UAVs are to be made to order. “It is not the kind of products you can find on store shelves,” he said.

This will be a small-scale production. About ten drones have already been made by now. In the future UAVs are to be sold to other countries. Potential customers include Vietnam.

Talking about promising projects of the year, Sergei Chizhik also mentioned the establishment of a stem cells center in Minsk, development of space and healthcare technologies. “We will focus on the establishment of new production facilities, manufacture of finished high-tech products,” the scientist said. Domestic manufacturers will be provided with Belarus-made plasma and hydro-abrasive cutters. This equipment has to be imported now.
