Pavlovsky to attend Berlin Agriculture Ministers' Summit 2013

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) - Deputy Agriculture Minister Vasily Pavlovsky of Belarus will attend Agriculture Ministers' Summit 2013 within the framework of International Green Week Berlin, BelTA learned from the press service of the Agriculture Ministry.

The summit is the central political event at IGW. This year's theme is Responsible Investment in the Food and Agriculture Sectors – A Key Factor for Food Security and Rural Development.

The Belarusian delegation is also set to attend the forum on the rules for responsible investments organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Vasily Pavlovsky will take part in the IGW opening ceremony and the opening of the collective exposition of Belarusian enterprises.

Mr Vasily Pavlovsky is scheduled to meet with senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of Germany, the Eastern Committee of German Economy and to hold negotiations with representatives of the German business community.

Established in 1926, International Green Week (IGW) is taking place for the 78th time in 2013. The IGW is a one-of-a-kind international exhibition for the food, agricultural and horticultural industries. Producers from all over the world come to IGW to test market food and luxury items and reinforce their brand image.

In January 2012, the International Green Week was attended by 1,624 exhibitors from 56 countries. The fair was visited by 420,000 people. Total exhibition space was 115,000 sq m. Last year the agricultural forum was attended by nearly 70 agriculture ministers and 500 corporate executives.

Traditionally, Belarus arranges a collective exposition at IGW. Its processing industry is represented by canning factories, liquor-vodka distilleries, confectionery factories and the companies affiliated with Belgospishcheprom food industry concern.

Germany is a major partner of the Belarusian Agriculture Ministry in the EU. In January-November of 2012, sales of farm products amounted to about $117 million.
