Belarus steps up efforts to enhance international information security

MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) – Belarus intensified work to enhance international information security in 2012, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Belarus Andrei Savinykh has told BelTA.

“Belarus stepped up work in a relatively new field – international information security. The problem is getting increasingly relevant taking into consideration the challenges posed by cyber crime and cyber terrorism, vulnerability of critical infrastructure, the use of information and communication technologies for military and political purposes,” the Spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.

He noted that Belarus takes an active part in international discussion of the matter within the framework of the United Nations, the CSTO and the OSCE. Belarus has a delegate in the United Nations Group of Governmental Experts on the Issue of Information Security, which responsibility is to draft rules, principles and regulations in this field.

Andrei Savinykh said that Belarus is actively collaborating with other countries in the bilateral format. For example, a Belarus-Russia cooperation agreement in international information security will be drafted soon.
