Belarus-China relations driven by trade and economic cooperation

BEIJING, 17 July (BelTA) – Trade and economic cooperation is the foundation for advancing the relations between Belarus and China. The statement was made by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in Beijing on 17 July as he met with Premier of the State Council of China Li Keqiang, BelTA has learned.

“Yesterday together with the President of China we reached the common view that whatever our relations may be, personal and interstate ones alike, economy will be the foundation for everything. I asked him to help me, our delegation to establish contacts with you in this regard for the future so that we could more intensively advance in the area of economy, finance, so that the PRC would work more in Belarus,” said the Belarusian head of state.

Alexander Lukashenko underlined China’s strong influence on the international scene. “I often say that today’s China is an empire. It is a country without which no issue is settled across the globe and the country should go to Europe. We are ready to help with that, primarily in an economic manner,” assured Alexander Lukashenko.

According to the President, as far as Belarusian-Chinese relations are concerned, it is necessary to fulfill a more ambitious task of increasing the investment component of the credit and investment cooperation. The Belarusian side is particularly interested in attracting investors to the Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park. “We will be grateful to the China government for getting maximum assistance in this matter. We are interested in getting the entire world to see cutting-edge Chinese technologies and research products in our park,” noted the Belarusian leader.

In this regard biopharmaceutics, new materials, information and communication technologies are priority sectors. The Belarusian head of state said he was confident that through joint efforts it will be possible to implement this large-scale project, which is unparalleled in Europe.

In turn, Premier of the State Council of China Li Keqiang remarked that Alexander Lukashenko had visited the PRC many times and is an old friend of China. Li Keqiang said he was confident that the present visit of the Belarus president will allow advancing the bilateral relations to a brand new level while giving an impulse to multifaceted cooperation.
