Belarus, China condemn interference in states’ internal affairs using human rights agenda

BEIJING, 16 July (BelTA) – Belarus and China oppose interference in internal affairs of states using human rights agenda. This statement was made in a Belarus-China joint declaration on the establishment of all-round strategic partnership signed in Beijing following the talks between Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, BelTA has learnt.

“The sides believe that the universal principle of human rights should be reconciled with the specific circumstances of each state. Each country is entitled to its own vision of human rights that agrees with the domestic situation and a country’s historical and cultural traditions,” the joint declaration reads.

Belarus and China also condemn confrontations associated with human rights, pressure exerted on other states and interference with their domestic affairs using the human rights agenda.

Belarus and China have stated that the countries and peoples of North Africa and the Middle East have the right to choose their own development path that suits best the national interests. They welcome the efforts of interested parties to settle the existing disagreements using an inclusive political dialogue. “The parties believe that a zone free from weapons of mass destruction should be created in the Middle East to enhance security in the region,” the joint declaration reads.

As for Iran’s nuclear program and the Syrian agenda, Belarus and China believe that these matters should be addressed using political and diplomatic means.
