Belarus plans to build potash fertilizer plant in Laos

MINSK, 4 July (BelTA) - Belarus plans to participate in the tender to build a potash fertilizer plant in Laos, Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology of Belarus Igor Voitov said.

Belarus plans to participate in the tender jointly with Vietnam. “So far, however, it is too early to speak how participation in the tender and subsequent project implementation will look like," said Igor Voitov. For Belarus it may be good experience both in terms of participation in the tender, and in terms of project implementation.

The memorandum of understanding on the establishment of a joint laboratory to study the mineral resources of Laos was signed in Minsk on 4 July. The founders of the joint venture will be the Belarusian Research Geological Survey Institute at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Protection of Belarus and Department of Standardization and Metrology of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Laos.

Igor Voitov said that interest in scientific and technical cooperation on the part of the two countries is quite high. The parties have identified many areas for cooperation. In particular, Laos is interested in agriculture technology, the establishment of unmanned aircraft systems, development of mineral resources. In addition, the South Asian country has an interest in issues related to the manufacture of medical devices and drugs, and also road construction and development of biotechnology.

"Through Laos we can work with the neighboring countries. For us this is sort of a springboard for greater interaction with the countries of Southeast Asia,” said Igor Voitov.

For his part, Lao Minister of Science and Technology Boviengkham Vongdara noted that for Laos the visit to Belarus was very meaningful. "Now when Laos is at the stage of active development, it has full support from Belarus," he said. The two countries are planning to cooperate in science and technology: from development of mineral deposits to pharmacy.
