Belarus, Laos to boost trade

MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) – The trade between Belarus and Laos will expand gradually, Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mikhail Myatlikov has said at the Belarus-Laos business forum on 1 July, BelTA has learnt.

“There are some cooperation areas that are of particular interest for Belarusian businessmen,” Mikhail Myatlikov said. They include production of crops that do not grow in Belarus and that can be used to produce foodstuffs. Another promising cooperation avenue is importing mineral resources that cannot be found in Belarus, like concentrates of non-ferrous metals.

Laos is interested in Belarusian investments. The two countries might greatly benefit from cooperation in agriculture, manufacturing and tourism.

The Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed a memorandum of understanding to maintain and intensify the bilateral trade.

The businessmen from Belarus and Laos discussed cooperation prospects in mechanical engineering, agriculture, production of foodstuffs, tourism, construction, mining and other industries.

Taking part in the forum were 20 Lao companies and about 30 Belarusian enterprises.
