Vitebsk to mark 1039th anniversary

VITEBSK, 28 June (BelTA) – The celebrations of the 1039th anniversary of Vitebsk will span three days, BelTA learnt from the Vitebsk City Council.

Dozens of events will be held in the city. The celebrations will open with Vitebsk Vernissage in Suvorova Street. It will feature an exhibition of arts and crafts and works of art school students. An exhibition-fair of educational institutions will be located nearby. Two events will be related to transport. A trolleybus service will be solemnly opened in Brovki Street and a model of the first Vitebsk tram will be presented. A meeting and a concert will take place in the Summer Amphitheater. A disco “Happy birthday, dear city” will draw young people to Victory Square; a bard music concert will be held in Mayakovsky Square.

On Saturday flowers will be laid at the monument to liberators in Victory Square. A water festival and an air show will be organized on the embankment of the Western Dvina River. The program of the festivities includes an exhibition and a parade of veteran cars, a procession of brides, a concert, a festival of youth subcultures, a plein air exhibition of fledgling artists, a book festival, and open-air theatrical performances. Visitors are invited to see an exhibition dedicated to the Vitebsk People’s Art School. The celebrations will conclude with a gala and fireworks in Victory Square.

On Sunday a focus will be made on family get-togethers. Concerts, entertainment events, sports competitions and quizzes will be arranged all over the city.
