Belarus’ Honorary Consulate opens in Florence

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Belarus opened in Florence, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

The opening ceremony of the Honorary Consulate Office, located in the historical center of Florence, was attended by Ambassador of Belarus to Italy Evgeny Shestakov, Vice Prefect of Florence Antonio Lucio Garufi, and representatives of the business, academic and public communities of the Italian region of Tuscany.

Evgeny Shestakov introduced Honorary Consul Marco Bacci and reviewed the key areas of work of the Honorary Consulate.

The consular district of the Honorary Consulate in Florence includes the Tuscany region, which is the most economically developed region of Central Italy. It is home to large enterprises of metallurgical, chemical, petrochemical, shipbuilding, aviation and automotive industries and also to companies of jewelry, leather and footwear, textiles and glass industries. Of practical interest for Belarus is the Tuscan experience in meat husbandry, especially pigs and pedigree cattle. Agro-and ecotourism in Tuscany has become the recognized world standard.

Fruitful is the cooperation between the Tuscan and Belarusian educational institutions: the Florentine University has agreements of cooperation with the Belarusian State Pedagogical University and Gomel State Medical University. Florentine Agrarian Institute cooperates with Belarusian Agrarian Technical College from Mariyina Gorka.

The Foreign Ministry noted the positive examples of twining relations between the Belarusian and the Tuscan towns of Rogachev and Lucca and Slavgorod and Montevarchi.

In the field of humanitarian cooperation Tuscany has been one of the top ten partners of Belarus among the Italian regions.

Many Belarusian specialists have taken courses at the technical center of the Italian Football Federation in Coverciano, near Florence.
