French Michelin confirms partner confidence in BMZ

GOMEL, 11 June (BelTA) – The achievements of the Belarusian Steel Works (BMZ trademark) in the social and environmental protection areas in 2012 excelled the level the French company Michelin sets for suppliers in global supply chains, BelTA learnt from the company’s press service.

The conclusion on partner confidence in the Belarusian producer is based on the results of the expert assessment conducted at the EcoVadis platform following the company’s request. The platform enables clients to monitor their risks within the suppliers’ basis across more than 100 countries. Keeping in mind the fact that partners’ social accountability and environmental protection makes part of Michelin’s criterion in choosing suppliers, the assessment of the kind will promote further development of business cooperation between the French and Belarusian companies.

Over the part 11 years BMZ has been supplying the enterprises of the transnational company with metal cord and wire for base rings that are used in the manufacturing of automobile tires. In 2009 BMZ was named Michelin’s best supplier of this product.

Founded in 1984, Belarusian Steel Works (BMZ trademark) is the management company of the BMC holding company. The enterprise specializes in cast bars, profiled iron, rolled steel, reinforcing bars, metal cord, wire for high-pressure hoses and other kinds of wire. BMZ exports over 80% of the output. The company employs over 12,000 workers.
