Eurasian Economic Commission assists Belarus’ accession to WTO

MOSCOW, 5 June (BelTA) – The Eurasian Economic Commission does its best to assist Belarus’ accession to the World Trade Organization, EEC Minister for Trade Andrei Slepnev told a press conference on 5 June when asked by BelTA.

Andrei Slepnev said he was satisfied with the resumed operation of the special group for Belarus’ accession to the WTO and said he hopes the step will accelerate the country’s accession to the international organization.

The Minister for Trade remarked that since Russia is a member of the World Trade Organization the extent of the use of WTO rules in Belarus’ and Kazakhstan’s trade is 80% because Russia’s commitments before the WTO are applied within the framework of the Customs Union. At present Belarus and Kazakhstan should use the WTO membership in order to obtain rights in addition to the obligations that go with international trade.

Andrei Slepnev also added that Kazakhstan is likely to finish the negotiations on joining the WTO by the end of the year.
