Belarus to attend Council of Europe Congress of Local and Regional Authorities

MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) – Deputy Chairperson of the Local Government Cooperation Council under the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, Chairperson of the permanent commission for regional policy and local administration of the upper house of the parliament Svetlana Gerasimovich is taking part in the 24th Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe that is due in Strasbourg, France on 19-21 March, BelTA learnt from the Council of the Republic.

The agenda of the session includes the issues of combating corruption at the local and regional level, development of local and regional democracy in Hungary, Georgia, Spain, Italy.

The participants of the meeting will hear out the reports on the observation of local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, consider an array of organizational issues.

The Local Government Cooperation Council has an observer status in the Congress.
