Petrishenko: Belarus is ready to expand its presence on Moscow market

MOSCOW, 23 May (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to expand its presence on the market of Moscow, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko told a press conference in Moscow on 23 May.

According to the diplomat, in 2012 the bilateral trade totaled $4.932 billion, up 19.8% over 2011. Belarus’ exports made up $3.267 billion (up 16.8%), imports reached $1.656 billion (26%). Belarus posted a trade surplus of $1.611 billion.

According to the Ambassador, Belarus-Moscow trade is vibrant this year as well. In Q1 the trade totaled $1.181 billion. The Belarusian exports reached $767 million, up 7%.

With this, Igor Petrishenko noted that the countries had not been yet able to reach their record-high trade of 2008 ($5.368 billion). “This figure is a guideline for us. We have been working hard on achieving it,” Igor Petrishenko said.

Belarus’ main exports to Moscow are food products. With this, competition on the food market of Moscow is on a constant increase. “Belarusians have to fight hard, using their favorable prices, high quality and new brands, preserving the best national traditions,” the diplomat said.

An important strategic area in trade cooperation is Belarusian supplies of passenger, utility, cargo and road construction machinery for the needs of the Russian capital. In particular, according to the Ambassador, Belkommunmash has recently supplied 100 trolleybuses to Moscow. Besides, Moscow purchases Belarusian household goods, apparel, furniture and other products.
