State Flag Square to become center of Belarus’ independence

MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) – The State Flag Square in Minsk is destined to become the center of independence of the Belarusian state. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko made the statement on 7 May as he talked to young Belarusians during the ceremony to start the construction of the residential estate Magistr. The residential estate will be built for scientific and artistic intelligentsia, BelTA has learned.

Speaking about the existing state symbols – the coat of arms and the flag – the President reminded that citizens of Belarus chose these symbols via a referendum. “You remember that when I became the president, a white-red-white standard was attached to my car although I prefer the present symbols,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

“The nation made the choice, therefore these symbols are the soul of the nation for me. Over there [near the State Flag Square] we are opening an entire complex including the Independence Palace, an exhibition center (we’ve put it into shape). This complex was envisaged as the final major point in arguments about our independence. It demonstrates that the country has everything ranging from lands to the national emblem, the flag and this Independence Palace where main state events will take place ranging from the reception of credentials from foreign ambassadors to meetings with the heads of state that visit Belarus. They should come and see that Belarus is a state and nobody will be able to turn it or bend it. It is the key center of our country, the center of independence of our state,” said the President.

“Therefore, you should treat talks about residences and what not in a calm manner,” added Alexander Lukashenko.
