Belarus, RSA agree on the need to observe principle of sovereign equality

MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) – Belarus and the Republic of South Africa state similar approaches to the need to observe the principle of sovereign equality of the states, Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Elena Kupchina told media following a regular round of the Belarusian-South African ministerial consultations on 13 May.

“We have stated the similarity in many approaches of the two countries with the focus on the need to observe the principle of sovereign equality of the states and non-discrimination in addressing issues of international agenda,” Elena Kupchina said.

A wide range of issues of bilateral importance were discussed at the consultations. The sides noted that the relations between Belarus and South Africa are of strategic partnership and agreed that the prospects in all fields, especially in trade and economy, are very good and need further development. In particular, the parties focused on cooperation in the fields of industry, agriculture, regional development, science and technology, and discussed the prospects for cooperation in the field of education. The Republic of South Africa expressed interest in using Belarus’ educational potential in engineering and vocational education.

Special attention was paid to the issues of preparation for the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation due in Minsk in autumn this year.
