Belarus attending Vienna meetings of working groups on trafficking in persons

MINSK, 13 November (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation is taking part in the meetings of intergovernmental working groups of experts on trafficking in perosns and illegal migration that are underway in Vienna on 6-14 November, belta learnt from the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

The Belarusian delegation comprises Deputy Head of the Global Policies and Humanitarian Cooperation Division at the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Vadim Pisarevich, representatives of the Interior Ministry and Belarus’ permanent office in international organizations in Vienna.

The main goal of intergovernmental working groups set up by the Conference of the State Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime is to work out recommendations for efficient implementation of the convention’s protocols against human trafficking and illegal migration.

Recommendations of the session touch upon the issues related to the reduction of the demand for trafficking in persons, the analysis of the concept "consent" and exploitation forms that are not mentioned in the protocol against human trafficking. The intergovernmental working group against illegal migration is focused on studying special research methods, development of international centers as well as cross-border cooperation against illegal import of migrants.

The Belarusian delegation presented the information on the national efforts in the fight against human trafficking and illegal migration. The Belarusian delegation introduced a number of proposals for the relevant recommendations that are to be worked out by the working groups.
