Belarus calls on UN to resist any attempts of reviving Nazism ideology

MINSK, 6 November (BelTA) - Belarus calls on the UN to resist any attempts of reviving the Nazism ideology, representative of the Department of Global Policy and Humanitarian Cooperation of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Tatiana Leshkova said at the UN General Assembly’s discussion on racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance held as part of the 68th UN GA session, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

The Belarusian diplomat expressed concern on a spread of neo-Nazi groups and the similar extremist movement in different parts of the globe as well as on the attempt to rewrite the WWII history.

Tatiana Leshkova informed the participants of the event on the efforts of the Belarusian state to secure interethnic and interdenominational concord and create necessary conditions for avoiding racial discrimination, ethnic and denominational conflicts in the country.

In her words, in August 2013 Belarus presented the report to the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on the implementation of its international commitments in the area. Belarus’ achievements in maintaining a high-level of tolerance in the society, encouraging cultural diversity, developing and preserving the cultures of different ethnic groups were praised by the experts of the committee.
