Belarus, Russia to discuss Union State program on supercomputer SKIF

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – The Belarus-Russia Union State PA Commission for Economy will meet in Minsk on 21 October, BelTA learnt from the Department of Public Relations and Cooperation with Mass Media of the Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly (PA).

“The major item on the agenda is the progress in the Union State sci-tech program “Development and use of soft hardware of Grid-technologies and promising high-performance (supercomputer) computer systems of the SKIF family,” the department said. Partaking in the meeting will be PA MPs and representatives of the Union State Permanent Committee, ministries and departments of the two countries as well as governmental customers and program performers.

According to the PA, the SKIF-family programs are aimed, first of all, at the development of high-technology, innovation supercomputer technologies, including domain-specific highly-productive computers SKIF-GEO and others. The move will allow implementing necessary promising technology for developing supercomputers, telecommunications systems and data storages. “Making it a basis for developing a fundamental cyber-infrastructure of the Union State will be an important instrument for making progress and securing technological independence and competitive ability of Belarus and Russia in the field of high technology,” the Union State PA department said.

The meeting will also focus on the preliminary results of the program on the development of technology and organization of pilot production of highly-productive and biohazard new generation pharmaceutical products and foodstuffs based on human lactoferrin derived from milk of animals," (BelRosTransgen-2). Another issue high on the agenda is a draft concept of the Union State sci-tech program on modern technology of geological survey, rational and eco-friendly subsurface use.

Apart from that, the Union State MPs will consider organizational issues regarding the activity of the Parliamentary Assembly, discuss the report of the Union State Council of Ministers on the 2012 budget performance. While in Minsk, the MPs are expected to visit the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Semiconductor Devices Plant.
