Belarus to attend meeting of CSTO PA Council in Bishkek

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) - Alexander Mezhuev, the chairman of the permanent commission on national security of the House of Representatives, will attend a meeting of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) due in Bishkek on 8 October, BelTA learned from the House of Representatives.

The meeting will focus on the situation in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The MPs will also discuss the cooperation between the CSTO PA and the statutory bodies of the organization in addressing the issues of international and regional security, the outcome of the September session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. The lawmakers will discuss the measures for the implementation of the priority activities of the CSTO suggested by the Kyrgyz Republic for the period of its Chairmanship in the organization in 2013.

In addition, the meeting will review the results of the coordination meeting of the chairmen of the committees (commissions) for defense and security of the parliaments of the member states at the CSTO PA Council for 2012-2013, and the draft documents regulating the activities of the Parliamentary Assembly, and other issues.
