Rybakov holds briefing on anti-trafficking efforts in UN headquarters

MINSK, 4 October (BelTA) – Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valentin Rybakov held a briefing to discuss efforts to combat human trafficking. The briefing was attended by representatives of the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking, international organizations and NGOs. The meeting was held in the UN headquarters on 3 October, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

Valentin Rybakov informed the participants of the briefing about Belarus’ plans to intensify international cooperation in combating trafficking in human beings and to provide meaningful assistance to trafficking victims. Among Belarus’ priorities are the UN Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons and its absolute fulfillment by countries, international organizations and other partners.

For the first time, the event was co-organized by American NGO Tronie Foundation that provides assistance to trafficking victims. The head of the organization Rani Hong thanked Belarus for its consistent and persistent position in the global fight against human trafficking. She noted that it is Belarus’ initiatives and leadership in anti-trafficking efforts in the UN that help successfully counteract modern-day slavery.

Representatives of the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking, international organizations and the public voiced utmost support for Belarus’ efforts to strengthen cooperation between all the partners involved in the fight against human trafficking.
