CSTO to discuss drug prevention in Minsk

MINSK, 29 October (BelTA) - Minsk will host a meeting of the working group of the CSTO coordinating council of the chiefs of competent authorities to combat drug trafficking on 29-31 October, BelTA learned from the Interior Ministry of Belarus.

On behalf of Belarus the meeting will be attended by a delegation of the Interior Minsitry led by the head of the office for drug control and combating human trafficking Nikolai Karpenkov. In addition the event will be attended by experts from the Healthcare Ministry, representatives of public organizations and associations, including the BRSM Youth Union and Mothers Against Drugs association.

The first issue on the agenda is the feasibility of creating a youth council at the CSTO. According to experts, the council will work to ensure the economic, political and cultural security of the CSTO member states. "The council would strengthen the cooperation between young people from the CSTO member states in various areas, including the prevention of non-medical drug use, rehabilitation and social reintegration of drug addicts,” said the Interior Ministry.

Participants of the meeting will also examine the development of the system of integrated rehabilitation and re-socialization of drug users, including prospects for the multilateral relations of the CSTO member states in this area. The meeting participants are scheduled to visit the Minsk regional clinical psychiatric and addiction treatment center and the rehabilitation center Istok.

The meeting will discuss the draft action plan of the working group for next year.
