CSTO Foreign, Defense Ministers, Security Council Secretaries to meet in Sochi

MOSCOW, 23 September (BelTA) – A joint meeting of the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council, the CSTO Defense Ministers Council and the CSTO Security Council Secretaries Committee will take place in Sochi on 23 September. The meeting will precede a session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, BelTA learnt from CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov.

The participants of the meeting will consider the agenda of the Collective Security Council session, discuss proposals for enhancing protection efficiency at the Tajik-Afghan border as well as a draft statement of the CSTO member states on the situation in Syria and its region proposed by the Russian Federation.

CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha will make a speech with a focus on the situation in the organization and will inform the participants of the meeting on the implementation of the CSTO priorities during Kyrgyzstan’s presidency in the organization in 2013. Russia will take over the presidency in the CSTO in 2014. In this respect Russia is expected to inform on its priority areas of activity.

Apart from that the agenda of the joint meeting will include the issues related to the implementation of the CSTO military cooperation development plan through 2020, the draft counterterrorist statement of the CSTO Security Council Secretaries, the draft decision on the international center for cataloging articles of supply of the armies of the CSTO member states as well as the CSTO peacekeeping troops dislocation, combat training of military authorities and the formation of the CSTO collective security system for 2014.

The agenda of the joint meeting of the of the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council, the CSTO Defense Ministers Council and the CSTO Security Council Secretaries Committee includes nearly 20 issues.
